For the second year in a row, the job of hosting the Academy Awards will be tackled by not one, but two A-list actors. While It's Complicated costars Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin handled last year's show, it's been announced that Anne Hathaway and James Franco will be at the helm of the 2011 Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences made the announcement on Monday that the two stars will team up for the big night. Oscar producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer said, "James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons -- fresh, exciting and multi-talented."
Hathaway is no stranger to the Oscars process, as the 28-year-old (who currently stars in the sexy rom-com Love and Other Drugs) helped announce the 2010 nominees and was a nominee herself in 2009 for her work in the indie drama Rachel Getting Married. She even had a taste of hosting duties when she performed a song-and-dance routine with 2009 host Hugh Jackman!
It could be a lucky night for co-host Franco, 32, who is widely considered a front-runner for his stunning work in the film 127 Hours. The quirky actor plays real-life adventurer Aron Ralston, a man who amputates his own arm in order to survive an accident. Franco's fans will find out if he's nominated for Best Actor when they are announced on Jan. 25, 2011.
Either way, we can't wait to see Franco's charm and comedic timing matched with Hathaway's grace and vocal chops. (Look out Billy Crystal, she may just do a killer opening number!)
The 83rd Annual Academy Awards will air live on ABC from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center on Feb. 27, 2011.
