The parents' groups who were outraged at Miley Cyrus for her latest music video are going to be even less pleased when they find out about this: The 18-year old pop star was caught on video smoking out of a bong.
TMZ.com has posted the video (watch it here) and pictures of what appears to be the Hannah Montana star smoking at a party with friends. But a source claims that Cyrus, who allegedly held the get-together at her Los Angeles home, was not smoking marijuana -- rather salvia, a natural Mexican herb with psychedelic qualities.
While possession of salvia is legal in California, TMZ reports that salvia is a "drug of concern" by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
Accoding to TMZ, the DEA cites salvia as a drug that can "evoke hallucinogenic effects" such as "perceptions of bright lights, vivid colors and shape, as well as body movements and body or object distortions...Other effects include uncontrolled laughter and overlapping realities. Negative physical effects may include (lack of) coordination, dizziness, and slurred speech." And the government agency is supposedly investigating the drug to determine if it should be considered similar to LSD and heroin. (Though the Washington Post recently reported that the drug has "no short-term dangers" in "healthy people.")
In the video, Cyrus -- who talks to an unidentified friend holding the camera throughout -- takes a hit of the bong says,"Okay, I'm about to lose it now" and lays down. She then laughs as she looks into the camera and says, "I'm having a little bit of a bad trip."
Cyrus later asks another party-goer if she is "tripping" after she sees someone who resembles her on-again, off-again boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. The teen star then giggles uncontrollably as the female friend working the camera (who earlier in the video says she is "going to document the s*** out of this") continues to roll.
In the final moments of the video, Cyrus yells and rambles as her friend tells her, "You're going to s*** a brick when you see this (tape.)" Cyrus replies, "I hope not," but then looks over and says, "I want more of that s***." Her friend agrees. "Yeah, you need to do more," she tells Cyrus. "You're not as f***ed up as you should be."
While it's of no surprise that kids in their late teens experiment with drugs, it's somewhat surprising that Cyrus allowed herself to be documented doing it on camera. While she has gone out of her way to prove she's no longer a little girl anymore, she should realize that videos like these ... well, they tend to get out.
