Charlie Sheen-Free 'Two and a Half Men' in the Works?

Charlie Sheen-Free 'Two and a Half Men' in the Works?

Charlie Sheen's one-man media circus has gotten him a lot of attention, but it won't get his job back. From the start of his epic tantrum, the actor has been saying that he wanted to return to Two and a Half Men. Now, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that series creator Chuck Lorre plans to continue the show -- without Charlie.

Insiders say that Sheen's costar Jon Cryer is in on Lorre's new plan for the show, which would involve a "significant role" for Cryer and "half man" Angus T. Jones, as well as "the introduction of a new, yet-to-be-cast character." Early speculation was that another actor -- perhaps John Stamos or Jeremy Piven -- might play Sheen's character of eight years, Charlie Harper (or at least a character serving a similar purpose). However, this new information makes it sound like both the real and fictional Charlie are gone for good.

So does that mean the title is going to change to One and a Half Men and a Special Guest Star, or whatever fits the new scenario? According to TVLine, the name will stay the same, even if the show goes in a totally new direction.

And while it sounds like Cryer may be getting more of the show's focus, it's still possible that Two and a Half Men will add a new cast member. All CBS will say is that the top rumored contenders -- Piven, Woody Harrelson and Bob Saget -- are not being considered. So everybody start guessing! Maybe we've all been thinking in the wrong direction. Could they be adding a woman to the cast? Or a baby? Perhaps a puppy?

CBS is expected to confirm or deny a ninth season of Two and a Half Men by May 19. Sheen, meanwhile, will continue his Violent Torpedo of Truth tour -- which remains, for the time being, the only job he's got.
