During a very candid interview with Vanity Fair, Cher had a bit of a slip-up while talking about her son, Chaz Bono.
Chaz, 41, was born a female named Chastity Bono and underwent gender reassignment last year. But apparently his famous mom, 64, still gets a bit confused. "She's a very smart girl – boy!" the Burlesque star said in the interview. But Cher quickly realized her flub and admitted, "This is where I get into trouble. My pronouns are f***ed. I still don't remember to call her 'him.'"
While the singer-actress has supported the decision of her child (who she had with her late ex-husband Sonny Bono), she herself can't imagine the transformation. "If I woke up tomorrow in a guy's body, I would just kick and scream and cry and f***ing rob a bank, because I cannot see myself as anything but who I am – a girl," she told the magazine. "I would not take it as well as Chaz has. I couldn't imagine it."
But this is hardly the first time Cher and Chaz haven't seen things eye-to-eye. "One time, when Chaz was little, we were on a field trip, and she said, ‘I’m so pissed off, Mom. You can never not be Cher—we can never just do something,'" the star reveals.
Cher goes on to admit her parenting was "definitely lacking," but she "did the best I could do." Cher says Chaz "is pretty much finished" with any hard feelings toward her, but her other son -- 34-year-old Elijah Allman (whom she had with ex-husband Gregg Allman) -- "has a little longer to go."
Nevertheless, the icon says that while it can be hard, both of her children "really love me a lot."
