Check out Britney Spears' vision for the future -- well, at least one day in the not-too-distant future, specifically Dec. 21, 2012. That's the final day on the Mayan calendar, the rumored date of the apocalypse and, fittingly, the setting for Spears' brand new music video for "Till the World Ends," the second hit single off Britney's album Femme Fatale. The video, which debuted on Wednesday, is a tableau of a wild underground club scene populated by scantily-clad dancers and rough-looking scenesters. In other words -- vintage Brit! While everyone is partying below the streets, above-ground it's another story, as asteroids explode from the sky and crash to earth, setting buildings ablaze and sending concrete chunks tumbling down.
Brit, naturally, is the focus of the beat-pounding clip, and she plays it up dancing and singing while wearing such get-ups as a studded leather jacket, a red bejeweled bikini top and bottoms, a black bikini top covered with netting, and a cropped jacket, ripped tights, cut-out tops, metallic-bedecked fingerless gloves and black boots.
As sunlight peaks out from the dark sky and filters down, Spears sings: "See the sunlight/we ain't stopping/keep on dancing/till the world ends/if you feel it/let it happen/keep on dancing/till the world ends."
Writhing bodies groping and grinding against each other are sprinkled throughout the video, along with many of Brit's signature hops, jumps, claps and head-gyrating, hair-flipping moves.
At the end, she emerges from underground via a manhole cover, looks around at the empty cityscape and smiles. Chances are, you'll be smiling too.
