Lady Gaga Takes on a Religious Protester

Lady Gaga Takes on a Religious Protester

Look out, everyone: Lady Gaga has a "Get Out of Hell Free" card! In the latest installment of her online video diary, "Gaga Vision," the "Born This Way" singer records her confrontation with a fundamentalist Christian protester outside her concert. It starts when the protester hands her the aforementioned card, and, in truth, it's really only a confrontation on his side -- because Gaga tries her hardest to actually talk to him like a human being. Watch the whole thing below (beginning at the 2:21 mark).

It would be very easy for the pop singer to make fun of the misguided protestors outside her show, but instead she actually introduces herself: "Hi, I'm Lady Gaga." The lucky protester's eloquent response: "So?"

The guy with the sign then tells Gaga that the end times are "gonna happen one day darlin'." In response, Gaga jokes, "Well, they'd better open up the gates (of Heaven)." Here's how the rest of the conversation goes:

Protester: I'm talkin' to you.
Gaga: I'm listening. You know, we really believe in God at my show.
Protester: Yeah, well, your pervert ways don't really equate to what God is all about, darlin'.
Gaga: My pervert ways?
Protester: Yeah, you know, the homo stuff.
Gaga: Don't you think it's hurtful that --
Protester: You know the black book, gold edges, little ribbon?
Gaga: I went to Catholic school for 13 years.
Protester: That's probably most of your problem, is that you got raised in a screwy religion.

Ooookay, so clearly the guy is a bit ignorant -- not just because he hates Catholicism and "homo stuff," but because he was less interested in spreading his alleged message of love than in judging celebrities he doesn't know. Fortunately, Gaga is unfazed by his rudeness, and the confrontation just strengthens her resolve to spread a message of universal love and acceptance. "It just makes me sad that my fans have to see that," says Gaga in her dressing room afterward. "But I know that's just part of what I'm supposed to do."

Gaga's new single, the Biblically named "Judas," drops on April 19. In the video, Gaga introduces a tiny clip of the choreography with the words "Let the revolutionary baptism begin." Preach it, sister!
