Jane Lynch Hosting the Emmys: It's Official!

Jane Lynch Hosting the Emmys: It's Official!

We love to hate her on Glee -- but in real life, everyone just plain loves Jane Lynch. The actress, best known as conniving cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (her Glee alter-ego), took home an outstanding supporting actress award at the Emmys last year -- and this year, she'll be hosting! This afternoon, Fox officially announced that Lynch will emcee the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards in September.

"Jane was my first -- and only -- choice as the host for this year's Primetime Emmys, and I am glad she said 'yes,'" the show's executive producer, Mark Burnett, said in a statement.

The producers say they were inspired by part by Lynch's cameo in last year's opening number, performing "Born to Run" with host Jimmy Fallon.

For her part, Lynch is thrilled to step up to the podium. "I am tickled pink to be hosting the Primetime Emmys on Fox," says the actress. "I'm looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit."

Even before Glee, Lynch's singing, dancing and improvisational talents were well-established, with memorable roles in films such as The 40 Year Old Virgin and Best in Show, and TV shows like Party Down and Two and a Half Men. She's also been a popular speaker of late, hosting the 2010 Do Something Awards and (as recently as this week) showing up to make fun of Sarah Palin at the D9 technology Conference.

But Jane's comment about the tracksuit has us wondering: Is Lynch going to show up to the Emmys in character as Sue Sylvester? Lynch's comedy is usually character-based, so it would make sense for her to do at least part of the ceremony as Sue. That would be a clever way for producers to have their cake and eat it, too -- since unlike, say, Ricky Gervais at the 2010 Golden Globes, you can't fault a fictional character for making mean jokes about the audience!
