Shia LaBeouf: Megan Fox Wasn't Comfortable Being a Sex Symbol

Shia LaBeouf: Megan Fox Wasn't Comfortable Being a Sex Symbol

As the release of the highly anticipated Transformers: Dark of the Moon approaches, fans are buzzing about whether the action film will be as hot without the presence of Megan Fox. And though some viewers may miss the franchise's sultry star, it seems Fox herself is relieved to have stepped away from the steamy role.

The film's male star Shia LaBeouf told The L.A. Times that Fox -- who was replaced in the latest Transformers installment (in theaters June 29) by Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley -- was never comfortable with the super sexy role she played. "This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America," he said. "And she had a hard time accepting it."

LaBeouf, 24, added that director Michael Bay's reputation for making action movies filled with hard, oiled bodies didn't appeal to Fox. "Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality," he said. "It’s summer. It’s Michael’s style. And I think [Fox] never got comfortable with it."

The 25-year-old actress' relationship with Bay has been famously stormy (she even compared him to Hitler once), and she has made many public comments criticizing not only Bay but the franchise itself. And despite rumors to the contrary, Fox insisted that it was her decision to not appear in the third installment.

"Megan developed this Spice Girl strength, this woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with Michael, who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women," LaBeouf said.

So how does LaBeouf feel about working with Huntington-Whiteley as opposed to Fox? "Rosie comes with this Victoria’s Secret background, and she’s comfortable with it, so she can get down with Mike’s way of working and it makes the whole set vibe very different," he said.

Megan Fox doesn't have a movie coming out until 2012, but we hope that she continues to develop her "Spice Girl strength." (Whatever that means!)
