SAN DIEGO — It was the swoon heard 'round the San Diego Convention center, as the honeymoon scene from "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" debuted at Comic-Con.
Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner premiered two brand-new scenes from the highly anticipated movie on Thursday (July 21) in Hall H, where more than 6,000 fans had flocked to see their favorite stars. The honeymoon scene, which Twilighters got a glimpse of in a teaser trailer that aired during this year's MTV Movie Awards, was definitely the hit of the panel.
The scene starts with Edward Cullen carrying the newly minted Bella Cullen over the threshold at their honeymoon location, the fictional Isle Esme. One of the most distinct elements of the scene was how adult both Stewart and Pattinson look, marking their transition to married couple. After exchanging a lingering steamy look in their beautiful tropical bedroom, Bella asks Edward for "a few human minutes."
"Don't take too long, Mrs. Cullen," Edward replies, causing an echo of sighs around Hall H.
What follows is a cute sequence with Bella taking some personal time in the bathroom to brush her teeth, shave her legs, pick out a sexy outfit (her new sister-in-law Alice packed only lingerie for her) and shake off her nerves before getting ready to consummate her marriage.
After telling herself, "Don't be a coward," Bella walks outside to the beach in only a towel and sees Edward standing naked in the ocean. She lets her towel fall to the sand, and then walks out to meet her husband in the ocean — right as the clip ends.
Filming the scene, though, was not as romantic as it looks on the big screen, according to the "Breaking Dawn" stars. "Brazil was amazing," Pattinson said of the shooting location. "It was really amazing the day we got there, and really beautiful and warm and everything you'd expect. Then it suddenly, for the remainder of the shoot, was not only raining but like hurricane storms. ... It was kind of like having a honeymoon in England. We were playing board games instead of, like, making love on the beach."
Taylor Lautner's character, Jacob Black, was the focus of the second scene that debuted at Comic-Con. Among the castmembers who also make appearances in it are Peter Facinelli and Elizabeth Reaser, who play Cullen patriarch and matriarch Carlisle and Esme, as well as members of the wolf pack, including Julia Jones, Booboo Stewart, Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Tyson Houseman and Kiowa Gordon.
The first half of the second scene shows Jacob meeting with Carlisle and Esme. He warns them about facing off against wolf pack leader Sam Uley, but Carlisle and Esme tell Jacob they will risk their lives to protect Bella. Then Jacob and his followers, Leah and Seth Clearwater, head to a meeting with the now-enemy werewolves Paul, Quil, Jared and Embry. Jacob asks them to tell Sam that when Bella's baby is born, he will be the "the one to destroy it."
"I'm the only one who can," he explains. "They trust me."
Lautner comes to the forefront in "Part 1," but he said he was jealous that his special-effects wolf form got to do many more action scenes than he did. "I wish I could be actually doing that. I'm super jealous of my CGI wolf, though he is pretty cute and fluffy," Lautner admitted to the San Diego crowd.
But that doesn't mean he didn't endure some scrapes. Lautner said he actually got a bit bruised by Pattinson during one of the movie's key moments: the birthing scene. "He gives me a nice punch in this [scene] after he finds out I imprinted on his daughter," Lautner said with a laugh.
