Rihanna Tweets Tribute to Young Fan Who Died

Rihanna Tweets Tribute to Young Fan Who Died

Rihanna has used her Twitter account to honor a teenage fan who died in a car accident. Karen, whose last name is unknown, was the 17-year-old assistant administrator of the Latin American fan site RihannaSpanish.com. Along with her friend Anderson, she also wrote the site's Twitter feed.

On Wednesday, Anderson tweeted that Karen had died in car cash, and was listening to Rihanna's "The Last Song" before she passed away.

"I can not in so much pain, Karen was my sister, my friend and confidant, only wish that this better where it is," tweeted her friend.

Seeing other fans offer their condolences, Karen's idol Rihanna offered her own words of sympathy. "Karen we miss u forever," wrote the 23-year-old singer. "One of my biggest RihannaNavy fans died today in a car accident!!!" she then explained. "Gone but never EVER forgotten!!!! She was only 17."

The "California King Bed" singer also linked to this image, which has a dedication to Karen over a picture of Rihanna's face.

Other Twitter friends of the deceased have written tributes with the hashtag #DearKaren, and more than 500 Rihanna fans have signed a petition asking her to dedicate a performance of "The Last Song" to Karen's memory.

Say what you will about Twitter, but it does give superstars the opportunity to reach out to the fans who love them -- and thanks to Rihanna, thousands of fans are honoring the memory of one dedicated 17-year-old girl.
