Michael Douglas delivered an unforgettable acceptance speech at the Primetime Emmys for for his performance as Liberace in “Behind the Candelabra,” filled with humor, gay innuendo, a thank you to Catherine Zeta-Jones, his estranged wife, and a shout-out to Cameron, his imprisoned son. The veteran Oscar-winning actor’s much-discussed speech for the Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie came towards the end of the long ceremony hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, which saw Elton John perform a new song in tribute to the iconic, trailblazer Liberace. Michael Douglas thanked his co-star, Matt Damon, who had portrayed his lover, saying their joint effort in the movie was a “two-hander.” He went on to say, “You’re only as good as your other hand.” He was by no means finished with his extended innuendo which had the audience roaring in laughter. In a touch of both humility and humor, he said that were it not for Matt Damon, he would not be accepting the award, and that he really felt he must share the Emmy statuette he held in his hand.
