Film and theater legend Peter O’Toole is dead at age 81. The iconic actor is best known for his starring role in ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ which catapulted him to international fame. He went on to star in a number of classic movies including ‘The Lion in Winter.’ Peter O’Toole’s death was first reported by the British Press Association as confirmed by his agent, Steve Kenis, who said he had died “peacefully” in a hospital on Saturday, December 14, 2013. According to CNN, his daughter Katie O’Toole issued a written statement. In part: “His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts.” While his portrayal of the real-life legendary character of T.E. Lawrence the scholar and soldier of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ in 1962 is what launched his career, the British-born Peter O’Toole had notable performances in many other classic movies of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s especially, including the aforementioned ‘The Lion in Winter’ as well as ‘Goodbye, Mr. Chips,’ ‘The Stuntman’ and ‘My Favorite Year’ He retired only a year before his death, [...]
