American Idol 2011 Finale Recap: How Did Lauren and Scotty Do?

It was the night everyone was waiting for, the American Idol finale. This past season has been full of drama, from Casey Abrams’ save to Pia Toscano’s early exit to the shocking send off of James Durbin. So perhaps it was fitting that once again, there was drama on the AI set. Earlier in rehearsals, Lauren Alaina blew out one of her vocal chords. TMZ had reported earlier that she might not be able to perform, thus paving the way for Haley Reinhart. Luckily, the 16-year-old was treated (i.e. meds, meds, meds) for her condition and was able to perform. So how did she and Scotty do tonight? I’ll break it down for you below. As Ryan pointed out, the finale was touted as ‘the boy next door vs. the southern belle’ and added that it was the youngest finale match up ever in the history of AI. Ryan asked Lauren how she was doing, and she told everyone – ‘I’m here, I’m ready to sing and I’m fine, don’t worry about it.’ Boy, was she ready. The finale consisted of three rounds.
