MTV has given us an exciting new reason to watch the 2011 Video Music Awards (VMAs): Lady Gaga will perform! To announce her appearance, the singer performs a fantastic jazz version of her new single "You and I" in three new promo clips -- one of which features her playing the piano while topless! Check them out below.
Here's Gaga removing her own bra while playing the piano (multitasking!):
Here's Gaga doing her best Ray Charles, with a little Ella Fitzgerald thrown in for good measure:
And here's Gaga doing a Biography-style interview about the songwriting process:
Tonight on MTV, Gaga will officially premiere her "You and I" video, which leaked on the internet earlier this week. Afterward, a live Q&A session will let fans ask Gaga questions about the video -- and we imagine they'll have plenty! The complex and mesmerizing video features the film debut of two of Gaga's alter egos, the male greaser Jo Calderone and the mermaid Yuyi, along with several new incarnations (including a half-cyborg Gaga).
So far, this is the only explanation that the singer has put forward: "The (video is about the) idea that when you're away from someone you love, it's torture," she told MTV. "I knew I wanted the video to be about me sprinting back and walking hundreds of thousands of miles to get him back."
(Yes, but what about the mermaid in the bathtub? Why is she making out with herself in a cornfield? We demand answers!)
Along with Gaga, singers scheduled to perform at the Aug. 28 VMAs include Adele (whose "Rolling in the Deep" video received seven nominations), Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown. The ceremony will also include a much-hyped tribute to Britney Spears.
