Jihadist Site Issues Death Threat Against David Letterman

Jihadist Site Issues Death Threat Against David Letterman

Is David Letterman in serious danger? The late-night host is reportedly the subject of a death threat, posted on a website frequently used by al Queda. According to Entertainment Weekly, the threat was issued after Letterman, 64, joked about the death of al Qaeda leader Ilyas Kashmiri on the Late Show with David Letterman.

A rep for SITE Intelligence Group, a private company that tracks extremist websites, says a commenter calling himself Umar al-Basrawi urged Muslims to "cut the tongue of this lowly Jew and shut it forever."

Letterman (who is not Jewish) is not the first entertainer to be targeted by extremists. In 2010, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker were under fire for portraying Muhammed in a bear suit.

CBS execs and a spokesman for Letterman declined to comment on the threat, but Tim Flannelly, an FBI spokesman in New York, said the agency was looking into the matter.

"The FBI takes all threats seriously and we will run it down like we do all threats," Flannelly said.
